The school social counselor has many tasks that he performs in order to reduce the problems of bullying of all kinds (verbal, physical, psychological, electronic, and others), and treat them using all available methods and means. The social counselor communicates with students, whether they are bullies or victims of bullying, as well as their parents in order to know all the details of the bullying problem. Thus, they work to track the problem on a daily or almost daily basis.

Therefore, this article deals with the role of the social counselor in treating the problem of bullying at school, as follows:

  • Protecting each student in the school from any harm he may be exposed to from other students inside the school.
  • Communicating with parents of students in the event that one of them was harmed inside the school or the student was violent towards his/her fellow students.
  • Enhancing students' self-confidence, especially students who are subjected to any form of bullying by other students inside or outside the school.
  • Following up the behavior of students inside the school and work to encourage them to love others and not to harm them inside or outside the school.
  • Educating students about bullying, its forms, and the first steps they must take when they are exposed to any form of bullying.
  • Educating students about the consequences of school bullying on their academic achievement, and thus making students more careful not to practice any form of bullying on others.

In conclusion, reducing the problem of school bullying requires a great effort from the school social worker. The reason for this is the diversity of forms of school bullying. Some students hit others, and some throw inappropriate words at other students. There is no doubt that this affects the psychological and physical health of students, and consequently their poor academic achievement. This shows the necessity of every social worker to play his/her part in reducing the problem of school bullying.
